dynamips lab:CCIE Security Home Lab with dynamips
CCIE Security Home Lab with dynamipsIntroduction
The goal I wanted to have a lab environment where I can prepare myself forthe CCIE Security lab exam. Dont get me wrong, rack rentals areprobably the best and cost efficient way to play with real gear(besides owning the complete equipment). On the other hand, it can bequite frustrating trying to align your schedule with free rental timeslots, so if you have some spare time (you should study right now, shouldnt you?
) and dont fear a shell prompt, lets get started.
The final layout is very close to the topology that Internetworkexpert uses in their excellent workbooks.
Description With the help of dynamips, dynagen and pemu, Cisco routers -including switch modules – and pix devices can be emulated on a singlePC. Recently I wrote a howto of how to run the Cisco IPS software inVMware, so except for ASA firewalls, VPN concentrators and somesecurity features on the catalyst switches, everything the current CCIElab blueprint lists can be emulated on a PC.
In my environment, I have one external Cat3750, one ASA 5505and a VPN 3005 concentrator. If you dont have these devices, you stillcan master a lot of the blueprint topics and rent a rack to makeyourself familiar with the VPN concentrator and some of the features aPIX does not offfer (WebVPN).
What you need
Hardware
- a powerful PC
-
- P4/Core2Duo or AMD equivalent
- lots of RAM (2+GB)
- 2 NICs
- USB to serial adapters (optional, see below)
OpenSource Software

dynamips lab:CCIE Practice LAB Dynamips
K guys first I would like to thank you on the feedback it is much appreciated that some one takes the time to respond to you on your time and effort.
So I would like to add another .net topology that is smaller but very useful for IP Services practice like Proxy Arp, NAT, HSRP and all the things you want to test that do not require a full lab of 13 routers.
the lab was prepared from the IEWBv4 IPServices book under Advanced Technologies also to people that do not have this Work Book it can be very handy as it is not very hard to figure the structure of the lab.
And work you way trough all kind of scenarios. So

CBT CCIE practice lab
I’m glad to introduce you a sample lab used by Jeremy Cioara for CBT CCIE practice lab.
You’ll find the .net file in attachment.
There is no initial config files.
Here’s the topology ( don’t take care of IP addressing ) :

BGP Default Route Lab
Hi all,
Here’s a topology that mimics a network I just completed building. Itconsists of one location (AS65000) multihomed to 2 ISP’s (AS300,400),with a remote site (R2) connected to ISP B (AS400). Both sites, (R1,R2)are connected with a T1.
What I’m doing with this lab is sending a default route to R2 viaBGP, full tables to R65000, and redistributing the default path toOSPF.
Since I’m using IOS firewall images, you could also have IPSec/GRE tunnels setup and run OSPF between R1 and R2.
Does anyone have any other ideas for labs using this topology?
-Brian

ATM lab TOPO

an somebody show me how to create this lab ? is it possible?
——————————–
this is sample from book.
can you show me example lab of connecting R1 to A1? b/c i havent seen any sample connecting router to ATM.
i can careless about loopback. The loopback on router are advertise network from R1 to R2 thro ATM over PVC
Configuration Steps for Frame-Mode MPLS Over RFC 2684 Routed PVC
The steps to configure RFC 2684 bridged encapsulation over MPLS on R1 and R2 are as follows. Ensure that IP addresses are preconfigured on R1 and R2, as illustrated in Figure 2-4:
Step 1. Follow the steps shown in the “Basic Frame-Mode MPLS Configuration Steps” section. These steps are the same for frame-mode MPLS over RFC 2684 routed PVC. Follow those steps to configure frame-mode MPLS on R1 and R2:
dynamips lab:[Original] an detailed instruction to simulator module
To make it easy for you to do experiment I list the corresponding module information that every device can support. (bat file)
(for those beginners in dynamips)
Attention: Make sure your IOS version is 12.2s above. To guarantee the success of the experiment, the IOS version should be 12.3 above.
Begin with C7200
Slot 0:
C7200-IO-FE <——> support one Fastethernet interface
C7200-IO-2FE <——> support two Fastethernet interfaces (there is no such option in DynamipsGUI 2.3 you should add it by yourself)
C7200-IO-GE-E <——> two ports would appear at the same time when you insert this card:Ethernet0/0 and GigabitEthernet0/0 (I never use such card)
attention: these three cards can only be inserted in Slot0. It would be useless to insert it in other slot.
Slot 1-5:

dynamips basic:well known Idle-pc value
Hi all,
here are some idle pc value that I have tested, but some of them not work.
If anyone have another good idle pc value, please report to me and I wil collect all together. I think it may help some new comer that do set up the network quickly.

dynamips basic:How to Guide For Dynamips on Linux
In continue to people comments and notes on the subject I would like to write a small doc here on how to Work with Dynampis on linux
First you can download Dynamips from here and I recommend to use 0.2.6-RC5 (both for linux and windows)
extract all to /home/dynagen
mkdir /home/dynagen/images // for the IOS Image
mkdir /home/dynagen/working // for Dynamips server outputs and memory emulation
and extract your IOS image to it
After you extract the binary (unless you know what you are doing I recommend to to waist your time with the Source). you need to create a shell file that will open localhost ports of Dynamips on your PC and this you can see in my artical
Then all you need to do is to start the lab that you want from the labs I have given by
do not forget to change the IOS image name to fit what you are using and to check your idle-pc as it is important if you want to work with more then one router. you can find more info on idle-pc here
./dynagen
Network successfully started
Dynagen management console for Dynamips
